    WHAT IS THE KETOGENIC DIET?

    The ketogenic diet is a high fat, moderate protein, low-carbohydrate diet. In recent years, a substantial amount of evidence has accumulated in the literature supporting the use of a ketogenic diet as a therapeutic tool to treat epilepsy, cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and even cancer. In addition, ketogenic diets are recognized as one of the more effective treatments for long term improvements in body weight, body composition, cardiovascular health markers, and diet tolerability, especially when compared to low-fat diets.

    When you lower your carbohydrate intake and increase your fat intake, your body shifts from using glucose (sugar/carbohydrates) for fuel to using fat and ketones for fuel. Ketones are a much cleaner and more efficient source of energy for your body and brain compared to glucose. Some even refer to ketones as a “Super Fuel.” Throughout this challenge I will teach you all about ketosis and the benefits that occur from following this type of lifestyle.

      I had dabbled with very low carb eating before but never stuck it out long enough to see any real results. After the birth of my second son I wanted to establish good habits to set me up for a lifetime of health. I lost 12 lbs following this program, I’m below my prebaby weight, but more importantly, I’m convinced that this is something I can do long term to continue to see results. I highly recommend Rachel’s 21-day keto program!!

      The amount of fun I had throughout the last 21 days has seriously been amazing! I’ve learned SO much about the ketogenic diet, my body and more importantly how powerful it can be when fueled by fat! I didn’t seek out this challenge with a particular goal in mind, I just wanted to learn more about this “amazing” diet that I’d heard so much about. After listening to countless podcasts I stumbled upon the episode that Rachel was featured in on The Ketogenic Athlete. Hearing her share her knowledge and expertise not once but TWICE was all I needed. I immediately found her website and social media accounts haha and signed up for the challenge and the rest is history! From the daily emails to the constant contact you have with Rachel along the way, this has been on of the best challenges that I’ve ever experience and believe me when I say, there have been quite a few. I haven’t weighed myself and nor do I plan to because for me that’s not what’s personally motivating. However, what has been motivating is within the last 3 weeks I have hit my personal records in multiple lifts AND have felt ahhhhmazing throughout every workout! I can’t wait to continue to see what the Ketogenic Diet and Rachel’s guidance does for my life!

      I have to say I really enjoyed the program. I had been wanting to do this Keto lifestyle for a while but always felt so overwhelmed and because of that would never commit. But with your program you gave me the tools and some knowledge to begin!! I was hoping to lose more weight than I did but I have to say I what I did lose was great! I lost my cravings for unhealthy food, I lost feeling lousy throughout my day! I do plan on continuing on living this lifestyle!!

      My husband and I did really well on your 21-day challenge! I lost about 5lbs he lost 10! It was definitely a hard challenge for us but we made it through! We are glad we went with your challenge it taught us a lot about the keto lifestyle! We will be continuing with the diet. Thank you so much for the information and all the daily emails!       Starting the keto lifestyle has been very rewarding for me in many ways – 1) Ive lost 12lbs, and am about 7-10lbs away from my goal, 2) I definitely have more energy than I did before, 3) With the meal planning, I seemed to be more structured in my daily life (Im the kind of gal that usually fly’s by the seat of my pant – much to my detriment), 4) Saving money – as I spend less money buying expensive take out foods, and 5) I am spending more time cooking fun meals. So, I definitely plan on maintaining this longterm! Although, once I reach my goal weight, I will likely start adding some more total carbs in the form of vegetables (on the list, don’t worry not to many) – just to maintain the weight, rather than continue to loose.

      As for the program itself, I thought it were great!! The keto alternatives that you recommended were so key in my success, I can’t even tell you enough; the miracle noodles are bomb diggity and a major game changer! The senza app was also a really important part of my success – as I felt a little lost the first 3-4 days until you reminded me to use it.

      So there you have it! Thank you so much for making this a wonderful experience and bringing some light and clarity back in to my life! I will make sure and spread the word about you and the Keto lifestyle far and wide!

      The ketogenic diet has almost become a “fad” which is great because it’s getting the word out about how awesome it is, but it’s also sad there is so much misinformation out there and so many companies just taking advantage of the “buzz word”. It’s very important to keep it real and do it right and Rachel’s program does just that. She lays everything out in a scientific yet simple way and uses the best resources to help guide you. If you want good information, real (and yummy) food, and success from someone you can trust, you can’t go wrong here!

      Rachel was incredibly supportive through the whole challenge, always there to answer my hundreds of questions! I loved the informational emails that came each day, enough to learn every day but not enough to overwhelm you. I lost 1.5 inches from my belly and 1/2 inches from my waist.       By following what I learned during the challenge, I never suffered the Keto Flu, I was never truly hungry and I managed to lose 20 pounds. Now I will just continue to roll along until I reach my ultimate goal. Rachel was great and always posting helpful hints.

      I absolutely loved the 21 Day Keto Challenge! Although the first week was a little difficult to get through, Rachel always made herself available to answer any questions that I had, look at any food labels that I sent her while grocery shopping, and always checked in with me to see how I was doing. I learned so much from Rachel throughout this challenge and decided to make Keto a lifestyle after the 21 days. In a month and a half I have lost 10lbs and am feeling great. I could not have started this new journey without the amazing support from Rachel.

      The 21 Day Challenge was perfect. It provides a lot of information and great for anyone starting keto or just simply those that want to learn a little more. It starts with the basics but also leans into how things can progress the further you want to take it. I love the recipe options and the products it suggests as I am a major foodie. I found it to be an awesome tool and a great daily reminder to stay on top of your diet. Overall it was terrific and something I will highly suggest to anyone and everyone!

      Rachel is not only a great coach, but, also very personable with your plan. Rachel responds VERY quickly to any question you have. I had so many questions and she always answered ALL of them and did not make me feel dumb since I was brand new to the ketogenic diet and knew nothing about it. This program was an eye opening experience for me. Through this program I learned more about self-care and giving your body the right nutrients it needs. I also learned its okay to have quality high fat foods which was a hard concept for me to understand. I did before and after pictures and I slimmed at the waist and muffin tops! Wooh! In addition, my energy boosted. My fiance’ and I did this together which made it even better to hold each other accountable and made it a fun experience to cook together. Another plus is since you are meal prepping we saved more money! I would recommend this program to anyone who wants the best!!!!

      Rachel is quick to respond on any question you have, and often she has already thought of your question and you will receive a well thought out answer and videos/materials that help you to fully understand keto and how to make it your lifestyle. I started the challenge after the holiday season and within 5 days I stopped craving any sugar or bread. I was shocked to find myself in front of a warm bread basket at a restaurant and not even craving a piece! I was so satisfied by the food I was eating under keto, I felt no need for the bread basket (which for me says a lot!). I saw my cellulite shrinking and my energy levels rising, two things that made me much happier. I had a lot of fun using the cookbooks Rachel suggested to make meals for me and my boyfriend. I love to cook and it was fun doing easy keto-friendly recipes!

      I am still keto and after 21 days it is so easy to maintain and I feel great doing it!

      Coming into the challenge, I was an extremely picky eater and wasn’t sure I was going to be able to participate. However, Rachel was excellent in helping me with meal selections/planning and motivation to get me through. I have so much more energy and lost 8 pounds! I’m looking forward to incorporating everything that Rachel has taught me into my everyday life. I highly recommend this challenge and know that Rachel is going to make a huge impact in the work of ketogenic diets!

      Rachel is great! She is super helpful and always willing to answer your questions. During the 21 Day Keto Challenge Rachel really took her time to educate all participants , sending an educating email everyday of the challenge. Because of Rachel eating keto friendly is a lifestyle not just a fad diet. Plus I lost almost 20 pounds in the first 21 days! She is fantastic and would recommend her to anyone!

      After I saw the results of living a keto lifestyle from family, I was excited to be a part of the 21 day challenge.
      The thing I loved about keto was that it was so easy to live a normal life. Unlike many diets where I felt so limited by the food I could eat, I could make slight modifications to foods I alright enjoyed eating – and actually liked!
      What I loved about the challenge was that Rachel provided everything you need to know. It allowed me to know as much or little as I wanted to for any topic. And the results are amazing!

      Rachel is an incredible resource for learning about the ketogenic diet. I participated in her 21 day challenge. I have taken part in many nutrition challenges within the CrossFit community over several years, but Rachel’s was by far the most in depth with daily emails, a Facebook support group, and quick answers to any and all questions that I had. I highly recommend utilizing her knowledge and helpfulness to learn about the ketogenic diet and incorporating it with workouts.

      I’ve been going Keto for about 11 weeks now with Rachel’s guidance to start of the last challenge she had. It hasn’t been as hard to maintain as other changes I have tried in the past. I am feeling great! The mental clarity kicked in around week 5 – that was the hard part, having the patience to wait for the much talked about mental clarity! My energy levels have also increased and I don’t feel so drained after all day at the office – which is great since I go home to my daughter and have to do the homework, dinner, shower, bedtime routine every night now that school is back in session. The fat bombs are awesome, especially when I have a craving for something sweet or chocolaty. Best part is that I can be around all sorts of desserts and not feel like I HAVE to eat something! Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had a bite here and there with the special home-baked stuff, but so far nothing has kicked me out of ketosis for he past 10 weeks.It just get’s easier every week I’m living this lifestyle. Thank YOU Rachel for bringing this around and having the challenge in July!

      I remember my cousin telling me about her research study and then I read her published thesis…I was still apprehensive about her “new found” (to me) nutrition plan. In my youth, I was athletic. I haven’t eaten meat since I was 16. I have always exercised in some form since becoming an adult. I considered myself “healthy”. Up until July 10th (when her 1st challenge started), my definition of healthy nutrition was minimal fat, minimal sugar, and lower carbs (gluten free since Feb)…my diet consisted of fruit, veggies, seafood/soy/beans/dairy for protein sources. Unlike most people I know, I was actually fairly content with my body appearance and how I felt about myself.
      Fast forward to now and I have a new outlook on my nutrition and a fond appreciation for all that a Keto lifestyle can provide for anyone and everyone!
      I have been able to incorporate an increased amount of fat and protein in my diet, while lowering my carb totals with minimal effort. I have utilized a free app called “lose it” especially in the beginning so I could see my macro percentages. However, nothing has compared to the vast amount of information and moral support that I was provided with during the 21 day challenge. The research is abundant and the effects are so positive, that there is no reason for anyone not to at least try the challenge.
      Personally, I have lost weight, lost body fat, and have improved my performance at the gym. In addition, I have noticed I have an increased amount of energy. (This comes in handy as I work 2 nights a week 7p-7a) I was told to “trust the process”, and I did. I didn’t succumb to the “Keto flu” and I am thankful that I persevered because I have never felt better!

      During my entire 21 Day Keto Challenge, Rachel was always available to help in any way she could. What I loved was that she would send out daily emails that listed interesting facts, topics or tools to use during the journey. She was also available to answer any type of question at any time of the day. Her friendly and helpful demeanor helped everyone who was in the group come together and help one another. She really knows what she is doing, and if she doesn’t, she’s more than happy to find out the information and/or facts for you. She really is amazing at what she does!!! 🙂

      It’s always easy to start a new program to improve one’s self, bit it’s not always easy to continue successfully.
      What I loved about this program was the enthusiasm, the super service and friendly support of Rachel and even the community on the web platform, and the knowledge base that was applied in what felt like an individual as well as a group approach. It was especially fascinating to learn some deep physiology about how things work the way they do, such as kidney function in a low insulin environment which requires an increased salt intake, which even despite all I’ve read and studied, I never knew before! Things like that helped solidify my resolve and discipline and helped me buy into the program and empower me to get the most out of it. Rachel has developed a wonderful winner of a program here and is an exceptional among nutrition specialists everywhere!
